Cried my way through 50/50. JGL is amazing.

I'm done

I read the first seven books of the Dresden Files and the first few chapters of the eighth. I think I'm allowed to give up now. If it's true that they get better, then I guess I'm missing out, but I think I've been pretty patient....

I think it'll be the Parasol Protectorate next.
Re-watched Captain America and Thor. Still blah on both of them (second watch was to give them another try to grab me) but still excited about the upcoming Avengers movie. Admittedly, it could be a hot mess, but I'm optimistic.

I watched Moneyball, and mainly was happy that it put me on to Lenka, who I for some reason hadn't heard before. Then Margin Call. I do like Quinto and quite enjoyed the movie, though I would have liked more exploration of the aftermath (yes, I know that wasn't the point of the film).

I'm re-watching X-Men: First Class and finding it as wonderful as the first time through. Why do I like it so much more than the other two superhero movies? The actors are exceptional and have real chemistry - maybe that's it....

Inception is up next, though I'm back to work, so probably not until next week.

And I did easily get hold of Sherlock 201, which was fun, if a bit wacky at the end. And I still don't get why Adler did any of what she did, but maybe that will eventually become clear. More Sherlock soon - short series, though :(

And Vampire Diaries and Supernatural will be back this week....

Dresden

So, I've been reading the fifth Dresden book on and off for about a month and am still only a hundred or so pages in. Given that I'm perfectly capable of reading 2-3 books every day, this doesn't say a lot for the book.... I'm finding anything more interesting than finishing the book, including laundry and doing dishes (and posting on dw).

That said, I really do want to keep reading the series, as I've heard it gets better (although the first five books have not made me optimistic) and I'm stuck in a lull waiting for more Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, etc.

It's interesting that some of the fanfic for Dresden Files is unquestionably better written than the novels. Shame no-one is writing excellent fanfic for some of the other books that I really love.

Sherlock?

Are there really going to be new episodes of BBC Sherlock starting with the new year? Yay :)

Now to figure out how to get them without waiting for PBS.... I imagine that it shouldn't be too hard with a little searching - and otherwise, there's always The Box.
So, I failed at updating regularly on lj, but loved following people on my friends page. Lj seems to be doing some weird things lately, so I'm giving dreamwidth a try.

No clue what to do with the communities I'm a part of on lj, though, so I guess I'll be following people on dw and groups on lj. That seems like too much work, but we'll see....

And in other news, I ordered a dodocase for my iPad and am so excited :). Hope it's as cute as it looks online.
